Adventure for the Long Run

Hom e Sweet Home...Park Sweet Park Well, now that we’ve been home a week, and I caught up on all the posts from our trip, I wanted to put together a summary post that attempts to capture the amazingness of the experience we had. I am writing this post over some wine that I bought while we were visiting Mount Rushmore 😊 Before last summer, I had never traveled in an RV and really had not had a great interest in visiting our national parks. I am 110% on board with RV and national parks life at this point—it has truly changed my outlook on vacationing and life! I have to say much of my positive experience and feelings are due to my amazing husband and his vision, planning, and execution of two trips of a lifetime—and many more to come! We are very fortunate that our chosen careers allowed for this type of trip and we do not for a minute take that for granted. Day 9: Sunday, July 7, 2019 Happy anniversary to us! There’s not many other adventures I’d rather be on than this one with these people of mine, so I feel pretty blessed to celebrate 12 years of marriage this year! We were ready to pull out of Yosemite Pines by about 8:30 and that was one place I was ready to leave—I just didn’t love it as much as some of the other parks and I was not looking forward to that windy drive down the mountain. Our plan was to get to Sacramento by mid-day to see the US Women’s World Cup game over lunch, but then we realized it had started at 8 am so we just played it on the radio. In the meantime, we were adjusting our plan for lunch and got a recommendation from a high school friend (thanks, Mike!) to go to The Barn by Drake's Brewing Co. on the Sacramento Riverwalk. Day 7: Friday, July 5, 2019 I wanted to get another run in before getting on the road again, but was a little worried about the narrow main road and whether the shoulder would be wide enough. Sean assured me that there would be minimal traffic at 5:30 am so I set out and as usual, it was worth it! This run was mostly downhill on the way out and very much uphill on the last mile back-phew! Another 5 miles in the bank and back home by 6:20 makes for a happy mom! We chatted with the neighbors as we were cleaning and packing up, then hit the road around 8:30 am. With a shorter drive ahead of us on up to Yosemite, we plotted a route to do another Walmart stop along the way. We grabbed some groceries at more reasonable prices and still got to the campground by mid-day. After a very nerve wracking (for me as the passenger!) drive up the mountain we arrived at the Yosemite Pines RV Resort .
